Trondheim Restaurants and Dining: Where to Eat - Trondheim, Norway, NO
Breakfast (frokost) is usually served at most hotels in Trondheim and often takes the form of a buffet, where options include American, English, Continental and also Scandinavian style breakfasts. Lunches in the city tend to be a simple affair and most locals are happy with a sandwich or similar 'smorbrod', which is a topped slice of bread. Hot dog kiosks also provide popular and filling snacks and are dotted around central Trondheim.
When it comes to the main meal of the day (middag), you can expect restaurant menus in Trondheim to be quite diverse and include seafood, meat dishes, pasta and salads, ranging from steakhouses to characterful cellar restaurants.
Middag is usually eaten between 16:00 to 18:00, or a little later, at dining venues located along streets such as Dronningens Gate, Fjordgata, Olav Tryggvasons Gate, Prinsens Gate and Sverresborg Allé. Also in central Trondheim look on the Kongsgata, where the summer salad buffet and the outside tables at the Grenaderen Restaurant, close to the Archbishop's Palace, are always popular.
A couple of extremely noteworthy dining options in Trondheim include the revolving Egon Tarnet at the top of the rather colourful Television Tower on the Otto Nielsens Veg, and also at the other Egon restaurant complex, on the Thomas Angellsgata, which is spread over several floors and really will have something for everyone.
