 Accommodation in Trondheim is often hard to come by in the summer months, between May and September. The best hotels in Trondheim are frequently fully booked at this time of the year, and any available rooms tend to be quite pricey, making reservations several weeks in advance more than advisable and quite essential if you aren't prepared to pay through the nose for lodging. Worth noting, weekend room rates are often reduced slightly between mid-June and mid-August.
A choice of budget accommodation is available in Trondheim, although the rooms are quite basic and a far cry from mid-range hotels. Cheap choices include the Trondheim InterRail Centre, which is extremely cheap, run by the university student centre (Studentersamfundet), located on the Elgesetergate and conveniently next to the Edgar Cafe. The Trondheim Vandrerhjem Rosenborg Hostel on the Weidemannsvei is also another notable option for budget travellers.

Another cheaper accommodation alternative to typical hotels in Trondheim are guesthouses and B&Bs. However, many of the extremely popular B&Bs are only open during the summer months and located outside of central Trondheim. However, the rather rustic Gammeldagshuset is close to the city centre and can be found on the Hvedingsveita.
Accommodation in Trondheim worth looking out for includes both of the Rainbow chain hotels, which are situated at the Kongens Gate and at the Sondre Gate, just a short walk from the railway station. Other familiar brand hotels include the historic Britannia on the Dronningens Gate, the modern riverside Radisson on the Kjopmannsgaten, and the Clarion, which stands nearby and above the Olavshallen concert hall.
